Follow these steps to safely install the D25 500GB surveillance hard disk into your CCTV DVR or NVR unit.

   Power off your DVR/NVR completely — switch off the unit and disconnect the power adapter from the wall socket. Never install a hard disk while the device is powered on.

   Open the DVR/NVR casing — unscrew the top or side panel of the DVR/NVR unit using a Phillips screwdriver. Keep the screws in a safe place.

   Locate the hard disk bay — look for the SATA connector slots inside the unit. Most DVRs have a dedicated HDD tray or mounting brackets.

   Mount the hard disk — place the D25 500GB hard disk into the HDD tray or bracket. Align the screw holes and secure the hard disk firmly using the provided screws or DVR tray screws.

   Connect SATA data cable — plug one end of the SATA data cable into the hard disk SATA port and the other end into the SATA port on the DVR/NVR mainboard.

   Connect SATA power cable — connect the SATA power connector from the DVR power supply to the power port on the hard disk.

   Close the casing — reattach the panel and tighten the screws securely.

   Power on the DVR/NVR — switch on the unit. The DVR/NVR will detect the new hard disk automatically.

   Format the hard disk from DVR/NVR menu — go to Storage Settings → HDD Management → Format in your DVR/NVR interface. This step is mandatory before recording can begin. Formatting will erase any existing data.

    Start recording — once formatting is complete, your DVR/NVR will begin recording automatically as per your configured settings.
     

Although this drive is optimised for surveillance use, it can also be installed as a secondary storage drive in a desktop PC.

   Shut down your computer and unplug from power — press the power button to shut down fully, then disconnect the power cable from the back of the PC.

   Open the computer cabinet — remove the side panel of your desktop PC case by unscrewing the thumb screws or panel screws at the rear.

   Locate an available 3.5-inch drive bay — find an empty drive bay inside the cabinet. Most mid-tower and full-tower cases have 2–4 available bays.

   Slide in and secure the hard disk — insert the D25 500GB hard disk into the 3.5-inch drive bay with the SATA ports facing inward. Secure it with screws on both sides.

   Connect the SATA data cable — connect one end of a SATA data cable to the hard disk and the other end to an available SATA port on your motherboard.

   Connect the SATA power cable — plug a SATA power connector from your PSU (power supply unit) into the hard disk power port.

   Close the cabinet and reconnect power — reattach the side panel, plug in the power cable, and power on your computer.

   Initialise the disk in Windows — open Disk Management (right-click Start → Disk Management). The new drive will appear as unallocated. Right-click → Initialise Disk, choose MBR or GPT, then create a new simple volume and format as NTFS.

   Assign a drive letter — during volume creation, assign a drive letter (e.g. D: or E:). The hard disk is now ready to use as additional storage.
